These have been on my radar a while because every time I put in “Make: Mercedes, Transmission: Manual” into Marketplace a couple of these guys pop up. All I know is that rappers loved them and I am told that the pre-02 has Nikasil lining issues. The idea of a funky 2 door RWD manual shooting brake hatchback thing appeals to me greatly as something I’d love to own for a few months. Anyone here have experience with them?

I quite like them as well, I think the problem with the early cars was poor interior quality . I test drove a 2009 C63 back in early 2016 and the air vent basically came apart in my hand. Unfortunately , they lost the stick when they did the face-lift for the 2012 MY. That said, I’d still want one, but they’re pretty hard to come by. If I had to replace the 3 today, it’d be on the short list.

I’m sure you could find one that is in tolerable condition at a fair price. My concern would be getting rid of it without much loss after it inevitably becomes intolerable in terms of dis repair or boredom.

If you hate your Lexus because of maintenance reasons you should run the hell in the opposite direction of one of these. It’s like an e46 minus the parts availability because they didn’t sell anywhere near as many of these.

You need to forget these exist. If you can’t do that, you need to try harder.

Also, Mercedes manual transmissions are not fun. They are softer and squishier than a CVT.

The M271 engine is trash. The M111 engine is one of the best 4 cylinders Mercedes made, but that’s not saying much. Mercedes can’t build a 4 cylinder for shit unless it’s a 651 or AMG.

Bushings and ball joints are liable to be trashed because literally no one does maintenance on these beyond oil changes. Interiors are junk unless you go in thinking it’s a Corolla from 1998.

Seriously, especially considering your luck with things that have engines and wheels, do not go down this road.

I knew someone who had one, and both headlights melted. Like the housings themselves melted.

There’s a dude who lives in my area and seems to daily one, but I also see it up on jackstands a lot, and he has a matching parts car with a lot of parts missing

These are basically nice looking pieces of crap.

You’re better off with a used manual Saab 9-3 or 9-5... as long as it’s the 4 cyl. Stay away from the V6.
